MINNEAPOLIS -- Beginning September 3, Best Buy stores across the nation will accept cash donations for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support those impacted by Hurricane Gustav and in anticipation of the support needed to recover from Hurricane Hannah. “Our hearts are with those who are trying to recover from Hurricane Gustav’s devastation and preparing for Hurricane Hannah,” said Paula Prahl, senior vice president — communications, public affairs and corporate responsibility, Best Buy, Co., Inc. “We are committed to supporting our communities, especially as they deal with difficult times and disasters. Making it easy for our employees and customers to join this effort and donate to the American Red Cross will help us provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those impacted by the hurricanes.”

Best Buy currently has eight stores in Louisiana closed due to Hurricane Gustav; all employees in the area are accounted for.

Best Buy employees and customers consistently demonstrate generosity in times of need. In response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, customers donated $1.9 million to the Red Cross through Best Buy store registers and Best Buy matched the donation with $2 million. In fiscal 2008, Best Buy donated a combined $31.8 million through corporate giving programs, the Best Buy Children’s Foundation, and employee-directed donations to improve the vitality of the communities where our employees and customers live and work.
